This week I was very kindly asked to talk about how to dress for work (for less) for Brightpeak financial. It got me thinking about how much people spend on their work attire. It really depends on your work environment, but women don't need to buy expensive suits and slacks to look nice. Although the post was focused on an entire outfit under $100 (found here), I wanted to talk about a couple more investment pieces as well. Here are some of my outfit ideas (every piece is under $100-still not breaking the bank!) for the workplace. This is a good way to build your wardrobe with staple and key items. You can make multiple outfits from each of these pieces. Try the blazer with the button down and black pants... the cardigan over the polka dots.. the list goes on!

Confession: I have been practically living in this jacket. I was eying it up for a long time, hoping it would go on sale. Right before our trip to Nantucket, I got lucky and the entire store had a 30% off deal. Sold. Although it was definitely still an investment piece, it has already paid for itself. I highly recommend this staple jacket. Another confession- I have been wearing this outfit (or version of) for the past two weekends already. Boots, jeans, and this jacket might just be my fall uniform. Tell me if you get sick of it.

I jazzed this outfit up with a necklace from J.Crew factory (already sold out, booo!). I was trying to figure out when I became so into sparkles and diamonds (pronounced DEE-A-MOE-NDS). My friend Lauren thinks it was heightened when I started developing little girl's accessories for my job. She could be right. She is also the one who gave me the challenge of not buying any new clothes until my trip in October-I slipped up on this necklace, can you blame me?

Also, fun tip. Amazon+boots= happy Emily. Actually anything on Amazon is probably a good idea if you are looking for a deal. I pride myself in really shopping around and getting the best deal I can on clothes. I finally took my own advice and bought boots off season too. There is always a sale happening somewhere, you just have to keep your eyes open! Also, sign up for Shop it to Me. It pulls all your favorite brands and stores into one personalized email notifying you of sales. If you love shopping, but don't want to break the bank... I recommend it.

I've been waiting to wear these boots- they are the perfect transition piece into fall. I bundled up with some layers this weekend and a big cup of coffee. Hope you all are enjoying the perks of all the crisp, cozy weather!

Fall has arrived! Looking forward to weekend getaways and wrapping up with a big blanket and a steaming pot of coffee. Here are some of my essentials! A wool Pendleton blanket remains on my wish list, along with a timeless jean jacket. I got some fall boots I can't wait to kick around in, but these Fryre boots come in a close second.

Ben and I went exploring around to enjoy the warm September weather! I have been pairing these Converse sneaks with just about everything lately. Mixing prints is a good way to make even a casual outfit more exciting, I chose stripes and camo for this look. I included some of my favorite ways to incorporate camo this season.

I remember my first pair of glasses. Fourth grade... pink with purple polka dots= straight awesome. Hopefully, these are a slight upgrade. I love Warby Parker and the entire concept of their company. For being almost legally blind, I know it's not always a fun process to get new glasses...but Warby Parker is the most fun I've had! If you are lucky enough to be blessed with the gift of sight (jealous), make sure you check out the sunglasses as well.

Tried this classic look with a little bit of flare with my accessories. Try layering necklaces for something new, my friend Marissa is a pro at layering jewels. Chains and pearls are an easy way to start!

Okay J.Crew, please take me off your awesome emails that notify that you have a sale. Oh, what's that you say? 30% off sale? Okay.. You got me!! Couldn't resist this detailed sleeveless shirt this last weekend. I don't know when this happened, but I have recently been very drawn to sparkly things (told ya I'm a lady). I felt that it didn't need any extra bling, so I kept the rest of the outfit fairly simple.

I wore this number on a hot date to Fresco, a great restaurant on top of Madison's Art Museum. Ben and I were celebrating 6 years together.. Pretty cool stuff. Happy Anniversary to my best friend!

Well, apparently it's back to school time- how did that happen?? That means fall is just around the corner and we pull our sweaters and jeans out of hiding. I remember that feeling of going back to school... Wanting to wear your new sweater and boots just because, then sweating your ass off because it really is still 80 degrees outside. Fun stuff.

Ben and I explored this old middle school with boarded up walls and reminisced about our old school days. I think I'm okay not being in school anymore, but I will always love the crisp smell of cooler weather and an excuse to buy a new pair of boots!
